<p>West Ham United have secured the signing of Mateus Fernandes from Southampton in a deal worth approximately £38 million.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The 21-year-old midfielder already completed his medical in London earlier in the week, and is expected to finalise his contract within the next few days.</p>



<p>Fernandes was one of the few bright lights in Southampton’s dismal 2024/25 campaign, which ended in the side’s relegation to the English Football League Championship. Despite the Saints’ struggles, the Portuguese Under-21 international impressed with his composure in possession and ability to drive set-pieces from midfield.</p>



<p>Hammers manager Graham Potter has been under pressure following a poor start to the new season, including a heavy 5-1 loss to Chelsea at home. He has been eager to strengthen his centre field options, targeting both a defensive anchor and a more creative playmaker.</p>



<p>Fernandes is seen as the latter, with his versatility allowing him to drive the ball or play as a more attacking position.</p>



<p>The move marks one of West Ham’s biggest transfers in recent years and is regarded as a statement of intent. With the summer window closing soon, the club hopes Fernandes can provide the spark needed to change their season’s fortunes.</p>

Mateus Fernandes Set to Join West Ham from Saints


<p>Jack Grealish was left “devastated” after police dropped their probe into a burglary at the footballer’s England home without identifying a single suspect.</p>



<p>The home invasion took place in December 2023 while the 29-year-old winger was playing for Manchester City against Everton. Thieves broke into his £5.6-million mansion near Knutsford; his partner, Sasha Attwood, and 10 family members were inside at the time.</p>



<p>Jewellery, watches and other valuables worth over £1 million were stolen in a matter of minutes.</p>



<p>Despite the terrifying ordeal, nobody was injured, and Attwood was able to raise the alarm as the burglars escaped.</p>



<p>Local authorities released a statement earlier this week, which reads: “Following a detailed investigation by detectives, this case has now been closed with no suspects identified. Should any [new] information come to light, then it will be reviewed by officers.”</p>



<p>Reports suggest the robbery bore the hallmarks of an organised foreign gang, with similar incidents across the region linked to groups from Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The unsolved crime has left the couple shaken, with sources close to them saying that the closure “means the gang are likely to get away with it.”&nbsp;</p>



<p>Grealish, now on loan at Everton, will aim to focus on football while coming to terms with the absence of justice off the pitch.</p>

Police Close Case on Jack Grealish Home Invasion


<p>Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea in a deal worth around £24 million.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The 21-year-old winger – who represented England at under-21 level – has agreed to a contract that will run until 2030.</p>



<p>Chukwuemeka spent the latter half of last season on loan with the German side, featuring 17 times and helping them reach the Club World Cup quarter-finals. Despite fitness setbacks during his career, he impressed enough in Germany to earn a permanent transfer.</p>



<p>After the move was confirmed, Chukwuemeka said: “I am happy Borussia Dortmund is now my footballing home. I will give everything to make sure we achieve our goals as a team.”</p>



<p>Born in Austria and developed as a player at Aston Villa’s academy, he joined Chelsea in 2022 but struggled to secure a regular place, registering just two goals and one assist in 32 appearances. A serious knee injury in 2023 further limited his impact at Stamford Bridge.</p>



<p>Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken hailed the new arrival, saying the youngster “further increases the quality and creativity of our attacking midfield.”&nbsp;</p>



<p>The latest addition to the squad follows recent arrivals, Jobe Bellingham and Yan Couto, with more business expected before deadline day.</p>

Dortmund Seal £24m Move for Chelsea’s Chukwuemeka


<p>Celtic head coach, Brendan Rodgers, has urged his players to be confident in their abilities when they face off against FC Kairat tonight, Tuesday 26 August.</p>



<p>The Irish team will go head-to-head with the Kazakh outfit in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie at Pavlodar Central Stadium in Almaty, Kazakhstan.</p>



<p>In a recent pre-match interview, Rodgers told reporters that the team needs to focus on their performance rather than failing under pressure, especially at a venue so far from home.</p>



<p>&#8220;Don’t worry about failing; worry about performance. If you think so much of the consequences, it can paralyse you,” he said.</p>



<p>Acknowledging their opponents’ superb playing abilities, the 52-year-old Northern Irish manager continued: “We have to play our game, [to] play the football that we’ve played in a lot of the league games this year. If we take that into the game, then we’ve got a fantastic chance of qualification.”</p>



<p>Raphael Urazbakhtin, Kairat’s head coach, responded: “They understand that everything depends on them. We also think that everything depends on us. I don’t think there is a bigger pressure on Celtic than on our home team.</p>



<p>“We will try to meet them and qualify for the group stage. And our task is to make it happen, to do everything we can.”</p>

Rodgers Urges Celtic to Embrace Confidence in Kairat Clash


<p>Everton ushered in a new chapter with a 2–0 victory over Brighton &amp; Hove Albion, their first English Premier League (EPL) outing since leaving Goodison Park after 133 years.</p>



<p>Sunday afternoon, 24 August, belonged to midfielder Jack Grealish, who marked his home debut with two assists and a performance brimming with drive and purpose. Midway through the first half, the winger’s surging run and cross found Iliman Ndiaye, who calmly converted to score the first goal at the Toffees’ new ground at Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool, England.</p>



<p>After the interval, Grealish teed up James Garner, whose thunderous strike doubled the lead.</p>



<p>Brighton had chances to spoil the party, striking the woodwork twice before forward Danny Welbeck saw his penalty saved by Jordan Pickford. It proved a decisive moment, with home side fans roaring their approval inside the 52 000-seat arena.</p>



<p>Everton manager David Moyes was full of praise for his new signing during the post-match interview: “We’ve been looking for different attacking options and he gave us something a little bit different today.”</p>



<p>For supporters, the win marked the occasion. From the echoes of Z-Cars to a raucous rendition of “There She Goes”, Evertonians ensured their new riverside home already felt unmistakably theirs. The result brought three EPL points and a surge of optimism.</p>
